los angeles singer/songwriter/harpist pat grossi, who records as active child, conjures modern r&b vocal stylings—and does so beautifully—against a backdrop of electronic harp and ethereal production to produce a deeply-affecting, other-wordly sound; and, yet, it’s pop. if the arresting “hanging on”, which recently premiered on the 2011 adult swim singles program, attests to the promise of his forthcoming debut album, you are all i see (out next month), i foresee an active obsession. feel it below.

it probably comes as no surprise to you, but my personal conviction is music should be listened to and shared freely. that being said, it takes money to make and promote great records and support talented artists on the road. i don’t, however, see these principles as mutually exclusive; they actually harmonize quite well: find good music on the web -> share it -> create greater artist exposure—and new fans, some of whom will pay to attend shows and, perhaps, a lesser few who may purchase the record. so keeping non-commercial, pro-art sites (e.g., weloverepeat) from spreading the good word is plainly counterproductive. it’s 2011 for crying out loud and, sadly, major music companies still don’t get or stubbornly reject this clearly logical concept. fortunately, some do.
